New vaccination campaign for Covid-19

Salinas

The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, said that the situation is “totally under control. We have 1% of the beds occupied with or due to covid, and that tells us about a circulation that, although it has increased in recent weeks, is completely under control ”.

“What matters is not the number of cases but the repercussion on the health system, and the severe acute respiratory infections that may be occurring,” said the minister in a context where cases have grown by more than 70% in recent weeks.

“In people who have not completed the scheme suggested by the ministry, take advantage of doing it now and do not wait for the summer or new indications,” he said. Only 45% of those over the age of 18 have received the fourth dose.

On the other hand, the Undersecretary of Public Health, José Luis Satdjian, pointed out that foreigners who arrive in the country for the summer will be enabled to vaccinate and vaccinations in the coastal area will be strengthened.

A campaign is also going to start to urge the population to take the fourth dose. Vaccination will be without an agenda and new premises will be enabled.

“We are at the stage of increasing the number of vaccinations, seeing the logistics of sending vaccines, rehiring vaccinators, and we will be announcing this vaccination,” Satdjian said. Regarding whether there are new strains of Covid-19 in Uruguay, he noted that “some experts tell us that this change in the number of infections would indicate that it could be circulating, but there is still no laboratory confirmation, which is what we are guided by.”
