Nicolás Abril, a content creator through his Instagram account @nicolasabril, recently warned about a type of scam affecting Nequi users. In a recent video, Abril detailed how a person received a transfer of $800,000 and, shortly after, was contacted by unknown persons who claimed that a “mistake” had been made and asked for the money to be returned.
Faced with doubt and pressure from the scammers, the victim decided to contact Nequi’s customer service and report the situation. According to Nicolás, the platform’s support team informed him that he should not return the money, since, according to the company’s protocol, any refund request due to an error must be made directly by the person who made the initial transfer.
Victim began receiving threats
The refusal to return the money led to threats from the criminals, who claimed to have all the victim’s personal information. The situation was further complicated when the person received a text message from a loan company informing him that he was in default on a loan he never requested.
The scammers allegedly used the victim’s identity to apply for a loan and then used their account to receive the money and, once received, claimed it as their own. Nicolás Abril indicated that the case is already in the hands of the competent authorities.
In comments by some Internet users, they claimed to have been victims of the same scheme: “It happened to me! Someone made a loan with my data”; “They gave me about 300,000 pesos; what I did was look for the name of the person on Facebook who appeared in Nequi and I found that the person’s account had been hacked and that they were not going to return any money”; “In fact, right now I have that problem; someone did exactly that with my personal data and the company where they made the virtual loan is not giving me a solution either.”
