The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported the arrival in Havana Bay of a new floating plant that will support electricity generation.
The patana has a power of 240 megawatts (MW), reported the Minem, and belongs to the fleet of the Turkish group Karadeniz Powership.
These floating power plants have been operating on the island since 2019 and are the result of an agreement with the Turkish company Karadeniz Holding.
Jatibonico and the Turkish power plants: the “border” between the two halves of Cuba
Cuba was the first Latin American nation to receive electricity in this way.
Blackouts due to deficits in generation capacity have been reduced since last December. However, the Ministry of Energy and Mines announced that from February to mid-May, it is estimated that electricity service will be affected during nighttime peak hours due to maintenance work at the main thermoelectric plants.
Mobile generation is among the lines of work of the Unión Eléctrica (UNE) to reduce the generation deficits of the National Electro-energy System.
These floating plants are ready for generation almost immediately.
