MIAMI, United States. — Local initiatives to promote trade in articles in Cuba continue to leave much to be desired. The last case is that of a store with products made from recycled materials.
The establishment was inaugurated in the province of Cienfuegos. A social media post from the local station Radio City of the Sea points out that it is the first store for the sale of recycling products and is located on 58th Avenue, between 35 and 37, in the main municipality.
In the place, 20-liter jugs, pieces of cardboard and other hardware items are sold at modest prices.
“I am amazed at the new recycling store. It is a way of giving employment to the population without guaranteeing any need to the people. What the people need is food. It is time to solve the real problems and to guarantee food for all children and the elderly, who are fading day by day. Get down to what you have to do,” Cuban Nélida Machado wrote on Facebook.
Dozens of Cubans in that social network ironized with the quality of products that are sold in the new store.
“I am perplexed. I imagine that Cienfuegos who enter that store will be overwhelmed by the number of products and the variety. It’s just that no, I can’t go, I refuse to go because indecision is going to kill me with ‘what will I buy?’”, said user Milkos De Sosa, a native of that province, but based in the United States.
However, some pointed out that the flourishing of such initiatives will be of benefit to the people.
“I see it well, there is a great variety of products that the people demand and need, such as the long-awaited funnels, it is a great advance that will boost the economy and replace imports,” said Yusmel Oramas, a Cuban who lives in the United States.
