New stage begins between Spain and the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Week in Spain (Headquarters) closed its first edition and consolidates the beginning of a new stage of collaboration and growth between Spain and the Dominican Republic, creating new opportunities in both the business and cultural fields.

During its four days of celebration, activities were carried out to celebrate the Dominican cultural heritage, and explore new opportunities for cooperation, business and mutual development. An exchange was also carried out between mayors, in addition to specialized conferences in key areas such as the logistics hubs of Zaragoza and the Dominican Republic, artificial intelligence, free trade agreements and investments, which have served to exchange knowledge and experiences for the benefit of businessmen and professionals from both nations.

Yesterday a gala was held in which, in addition to offering a very positive balance of its four days of activity, the recently deceased Bernarda Jiménez was recognized for her support of the Dominican diaspora.

At the event the Dominican ambassador to Spain, Juan Bolivar Diazvalued the first Headquarters and highlighted that the commercial exchange with Spain “still has a lot of room for improvement, because the balance tilts 9 to 1 in favor of Spain, which has already positioned itself as the second investing country in the DR behind the US.
Bolívar highlighted the figure of Jiménez, “who helped more than 52,000 Dominican women settle in Spain and were the first promoters of the Spanish link with Dominican society.”

In the posthumous tribute to Jiménez, her husband Pedro Alvarez expressed “a recognition of his 29 years of work with a Dominican immigration of which we must be very proud.” Because the doctor, writer and activist, a tireless symbol of the fight for social justice and integration, “repeated numerous times that those thousands of Dominican women domestic workers have always been the best ambassadors of the DR.”

Doctors Carlos Dante Heredia and Christian García, businesswoman Gricell Garrido and artists Ángela Carrasco and Héctor Farías also received awards.
