The new season of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) was officially launched this Tuesday (14) at Salão Nobre do Corinthians, in São Paulo. The competition, which will have its first matches played next Saturday (18), will have a slogan: “Our Land has Basketball”. The idea, according to the competition organizers, is to “strengthen the identity of Brazilian basketball”.
Another novelty will be outside the four lines, the first woman to lead a team in the competition. And the task will fall to Serbian Jelena Todorovic. The 31-year-old coach will be in charge of Fortaleza Basquete Cearense, which debuts against Vasco da Gama on Saturday.

“I am very honored with this privilege. Commanding is difficult, it is a challenge. I try to be the best person to lead my athletes. It doesn’t matter if you are a woman or not, it matters that you are the best person for the position. You have leadership skills, you have knowledge and you got the job. I thank Brazilian basketball for giving me this great opportunity”, declared the coach.
Someone who also arrives motivated for a new season of the NBB is Léo Costa, commander of Minas, current runner-up in the competition and who is looking for an unprecedented victory: “The club really wants this title. We know the difficulty and the high level of the competition. In recent years, Minas has been considered one of the big favorites to take the competition, and that makes me very happy. It won’t be an easy process and we want to put ourselves in that position as big favorites for the title again.”

However, for the current champion, staying at the top is also a great challenge, as winger/guard Georginho de Paula, from Sesi Franca, made clear: “We, from Franca, know this pressure, we know the responsibility it is and we work every day to respond very well. Our objective is to win another cup and make history, but we know it will not be an easy mission.”
