According to the Cuban News Agency (Acn), at the Vilo Acuña international airport in Cayo Largo del Sur, on the Isle of Youth, a new runway has just been inaugurated.

The construction and maintenance actions, in addition to the paving of the runway, included the air terminal with capacity for 400 passengers, the new control tower and the aircraft refueling systems.

The note specifies that the repair of the airport will allow it to receive larger planes and that it is part of a group of investments to relaunch the Island as a tourist destination.

The facility belongs to the Cuban Airports and Aeronautical Services Company SA (ECASA). The main airlines that fly daily to and from this air terminal are Aerocaribbean, Cubana de Aviación, Aeroflot, Aerogaviota, Aeroméxico, Blue Panorama, COPA Airlines, LACSA and KLM.

Currently, the Cayo Largo del Sur tourist complex is operated by the Gran Caribe Hotel Group, but during FITCuba 2022 it was announced that for the next winter season it will be managed by Blue Diamond Resorts, a Canadian hotel chain with a growing presence in Cuba.
