New Public Youth Policy will govern in Panama from 2022 to 2025

“Today, officially, we deliver the document of the new Public Policy for Youth, which will become the orientation guide for decision makers in public management,” said the Minister of Social Development (MIDES), María Inés Castillo.

Minister Castillo’s words were given during the launch of the final document of the Youth Public Policy that will govern Panama from 2022 to 2027.

The Ministry of Social Development (MIDES), as the governing body for social policies, has spearheaded this process, demonstrating the commitment and willingness of the Government of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen to work to guarantee the full exercise of youth rights. .

The Public Youth Policy seeks to ensure that specific actions are promoted with competent managers, to reorder institutional management in favor of youth, taking into account the challenges generated by the pandemic. This, as a way for the full development of the country’s youth, the full exercise of their rights and direct participation in the decisions that affect them.

During her speech at the Headquarters of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), Minister Castillo provided details of this process, which began in 2019 with the creation of the MIDES National Coordination of Youth Programs and Projects. By August 2021, the installation of the Council for Public Youth Policies is achieved, as a mechanism for social agreement, articulation and consultation, which traced the operational and necessary route, resulting in 2,875 young people consulted throughout the national territory.

The public youth consultation at the national level was a stage in which the thematic axes were explored. These axes were defined based on the contributions made in Agora of the Bicentennial, by young people between 15 and 29 years of age.

The defined axes are:

• Axis 1: Agriculture
• Axis 2: Environment
• Axis 3: Culture
• Axis 4: Sport
• Axis 5: Education
• Axis 6: Employability and entrepreneurship
• Axis 7: Inclusion
• Axis 8: Health
• Axis 9: Citizen security
• Axis 10: Communication
