On October 18, protesters will take to the streets again for “Day Without Kings,” a nationwide series of protests against the Trump Administration.
These rallies were organized in response to the US Army’s 250th anniversary military parade in Washington DC, which coincided with Trump’s 79th birthday.
According to the Indivisible Project, 2,000 “No Kings” protests have been scheduled throughout the country for next Saturday.
There will be protests in cities such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans, Washington DC and Kansas City, among others.
“On October 18, millions of us will rise again to show the world that America has no kings and that the power belongs to the people,” reads the main page of the No Kings website.
The protest in Washington will take place in front of the Capitol and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) urged federal workers to participate in the protests.
“The protest movement has taken on new urgency with the government shutdown, which began on October 1,” AFGE stated.
“Shutting down the Government is another authoritarian power grab by this Administration, which has threatened to lay off large numbers of furloughed federal employees as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle federal programs and services that the Administration finds objectionable.”
Actor Robert De Niro called on Americans to participate in the upcoming Kingsless Day, referring to the American Revolution as the “original Kingsless Day.”
“We’ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then, often challenging, sometimes confusing, always essential,” De Niro said in a video shared on Indivisible’s Instagram page.
“And we fought two world wars to preserve it. Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it from us, King Donald I.”
