Supreme Judge Janet Tello was sworn in today as the new president of the Judiciary, a position she will occupy between 2025 and 2026.
In his inauguration speech, Tello said he will strengthen PJ’s leadership and the separation of powers; It will improve services and guarantee citizens’ access to justice without discrimination.
He also indicated that he will not allow political interference in the different processes.
“No one should set foot in the Judiciary other than to achieve justice within its processes (…) we will respect the independence of the Judiciary on the objective and visible level of politics, and we will expose any improper relationship that distorts the jurisdictional function and does not respect judicial decisions,” he emphasized.
He stressed that in his jurisdiction only illegal acts will be prosecuted and rejected the practices of denouncing political enemies, electoral competitors and investigative journalists just because they are uncomfortable.
“Trials of political figures must have the same guarantees and rigors as those of any citizen,” he insisted.
He said that he will reinforce flagrante delicto units to cover cases of feminicide and various forms of gender violence.
