New president of the CNTV, Faride Zerán: «It is necessary to deconcentrate the media»

The Government Spokesperson Minister, Camila Vallejopresented this Thursday afternoon the new president of the National Television Council (CNTV) -appointed by the President Gabriel Boric-, the journalist Faride Zeran. At a press point, Zerán said that “it is necessary to deconcentrate the media.”

The former director of the Institute of Communication and Image (ICEI) of the University of Chile was consulted about a possible media law. “I don’t know if it is necessary to advance in a new media law. What I do know is that more public media are needed, a greater plurality of media,” she said.

“It is necessary to deconcentrate the media, which, for example, are in the hands of a few in the written media,” emphasized Zerán.

“If that is through a media law, without a doubt it has to be done. If that is through effectively providing, empowering the organizations that already exist, we have to provide them, we have to empower them,” he added.

Minister Vallejo said that Zerán will take office on April 11, and not on the first day of the month as had been commented on in the media.
