A new quinnipiac poll University finds that former President Donald Trump is the favorite in the Republican presidential primary race.
According to the measurement, 56% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters support the former president. He has a 31-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who officially kicks off his White House campaign on Wednesday.
Support for Trump is up 9 points since the end of March, while support for DeSantis is down 8 points over that same period.
Twelve other Republican candidates, both declared and potential, polled just 3% or less.
Trump leads DeSantis by more than 30 percentage points in national poll
In a hypothetical confrontation between Trump and Biden, he narrowly manages a victory with 48% of registered voters compared to 46% for Trump. This data has not changed since the end of March.
More than half of those polled, 65%, said that Biden, 80, is too old for a second term.
The president’s age has long been a concern for voters. At 76, Trump is only a few years younger than Biden, but 59% said they think Trump is not too old for another term.
The poll was conducted May 18-22 and surveyed 1,616 registered voters. His margin of error was 3.8 percentage points.
