New Orleans Jazz Museum will recognize two Dominicans

On Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, Fernando Rodríguez de Mondesert and Fermín Ceballos will receive recognition from a delegation from the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

The creator of Jazz in the Dominican Republic, Fernando Rodríguez de Mondesert and the Dominican musician Fermín Ceballos, will receive Greg Lambousy, general director of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, and Taslya Mejia, director of Events and External Relations of that institution, who will present both acknowledgments.

The visit also seeks to strengthen cultural ties between New Orleans and the Dominican Republic, Rodríguez de Mondesert told elCaribe.

Fernando explained that he will receive the Creative Spaces Award on Friday the 10th in the middle of the weekly jazz event Fiesta Sunset Jazz, at the Dominican Fiesta hotel.

For his part, Ceballos will receive the Jazz Ambassador Award on Saturday the 11th, accompanied by his family, friends and audience, during his concert at Casa de Teatro.

The Creative Spaces Award, which will be awarded to Fernando Rodríguez de Mondesert, is in recognition of his work as an ambassador of jazz for the Dominican Republic and for having been able to create spaces for its development and dissemination during these 18 years, since it was created. the Jazz project in the Dominican Republic.

At the end of October 2006 Fernando Rodriguez De Mondesert created Jazz en Dominicana, dedicated to informing, promoting, positioning and developing jazz in the Dominican Republic and Dominican jazz around the world. The Jazz en Dominicana blog has informed readers from more than 55 countries in more than 2,160 articles, concert and festival reviews, interviews, biographies, photos and others about the musicians of this country. It is the only medium 100% dedicated to this genre in the country. And through their spaces, which offer live jazz weekly, they have managed to present more than 1,350 events. Currently the venues are: Sunset Jazz Party (since 2009); Jazz Nights at Acropolis (since 2017); and, the Jazzy Tuesdays (since 2021).

In 2019 he was one of the 7 winners at the Global Blog Awards, and one of the awards was the publication of a book, which took place in February 2020. Jazz in the Dominican Republic: The Interviews 2019 was published by Ukiyoto Publishing Co., and is available on Amazon. Since then three new titles have been added: Mujeres en el Jazz… en dominicana; Jazz in the Dominican Republic: The Interviews 2020; and Jazz in the Dominican Republic: The Interviews 2021. His fifth book will be out soon: Jazz in the Dominican Republic: The Interviews 2022.

Jazz Ambassador Award to Fermín Ceballos

In recognition of his collaboration with the New Orleans Jazz Museum and for being an exceptional ambassador of Latin music in the US and the fusion with the music of New Orleans. He studied music at the UASD. He plays the accordion, guitar and piano. He speaks and sings in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese. It has been recognized twice by the US Department of Agriculture. In 2020 together with the mayor of New Orleans, Latoya Cantrell, through her office Embrace the Culture developed Hispaniola-live, an event held in the New Orleans Jazz Museum, creating an opportunity for other Latino artists to present their art and talent in this city.
