New Mides program will serve 1,500 families in terms of social policies and rights

Authorities from the Ministry of Social Development presented Family Action, a nationwide program based on accompanying families that make up the Uruguay Crece Contigo area. The initiative will be in charge of the National Directorate of Social Development, for the purpose of promoting the construction of citizenship through interventions of a psychosocial nature. Bidding will begin June 1.

They were present at the activity, this Wednesday 25 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides), Minister Martín Lema and the National Director of Social Development, Cecilia Sena.

During his oratory, Lema stressed that the program will be subjected to permanent analysis in order to ensure improvements, and that the services will be carried out directly by technicians from the portfolio and not through organizations, which, he considered, could become greater efficiency.

In addition, he referred to the importance of focusing on the objectives of the program, in the understanding that they must be specific, in order to make their achievement and subsequent improvement possible.

At the same time, he highlighted the importance of working in the territory to learn about the particular characteristics that make up each family nucleus and to be able to provide them with adequate comprehensive care.

Finally, he declared that from the portfolio he directs he appeals to promote a permanent improvement of people, and “change people’s lives for the better.”

Family Action is a program that will use a proximity methodology, the attention will be in charge of specialized technicians in social work, psychology and education. The professionals will work with the families in promoting the exercise of rights and advice to avoid gender-based or intra-family violence, as well as in terms of access to benefits and strengthening of the social service networks that surround these families. The program replaces the so-called Surroundings which has undergone, since 2020, a redesign in search of greater effectiveness, efficiency and quality.

The National Director of Social Development, Cecilia Sena, indicated that the family approach service that is carried out from the Mides, in agreement with the Attorney General’s Office, will remain under the same social policy: Family Action.

He stressed that this program will focus on providing care to families in situations of extreme vulnerability that include children 2 years of age and older. The approach will be carried out in psychosocial pairs (psychologist and social worker) and this year it is expected to reach 1,500 nuclei that will also be able to access benefits from Mides and the Family Fund. The activities that make up this initiative will begin on Wednesday, June 1, and will be monitored and evaluated by the National Directorate for Data Analysis and Transfers of Mides.

The presentation of the new program was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Social Development, Andrea Brugman; the prosecutor of the Court, Juan Gómez; representatives of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) and members of the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning.
