New massacre leaves three dead in the department of Cauca

A new act of violence in Colombia left three people murdered this Saturday in the department of Caucain which it is already the 74th massacre since the beginning of 2022, reported the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz).

(Seven police officers are killed in an ambush in Huila).

The massacre occurred in the San José sector, jurisdiction of the municipality of Santander of Quilichao, when the victims were traveling in a vehicle and were intercepted by armed men who attacked them.

One of the members of the vehicle was seriously injured and later died in the care center to which he was transferred.

The area where these three people were killed is “a strategic area for the facilities for mobility, for the interconnection of the rural and the urban, which enables the traffic and transit of illegality”, warned the Ombudsman in an early warning about Santander de Quilichao.

The massacre occurs a day after the attack that claimed the lives of seven agents of the Colombian National Police in a rural area of the department of Huila.

The violence has intensified in the last week in the country despite the ambitious initiative of the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, to achieve a “total peace” that includes negotiations with the illegal armed groups that persist, either through a peace negotiation in cases such as that of the ELN -a political guerrilla-, or a submission to justice for those involved in common crimes, such as those of drug gangs or dissidents.
