From this Thursday the pockets of consumers will be hit by a new increase in the price of all cuts of beef with bone, with the exception of the roast, as confirmed to the media by the president of the Union of Meat Vendors ( UVC), Alfonso Fontenla.

There would be an increase of between 8 and 10 pesos for each cut, and already “there are several refrigerators with new price lists, but not all of them,” added Fontenla. The field roast is out of this rise because it is exempt from VAT by order of the Executive Power.

On Tuesday, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, announced that the VAT exemption for barbecues will remain in force for one more month because. The president of the UVC celebrated this because “a lot of barbecue was sold, consumers demand it and it is a measure that served us all”.

According to the National Meat Institute, beef has increased in the last year above the Consumer Price Index (CPI), compared to February. In the last measurement of March, the IPC had increased 1.1%, while bovine meat rose 2.8%. Poultry meat rose 4.3% and pork 3.1%.
