The government announced this Wednesday (23) the new digital identity card. But the Brazilian will not need to run out to exchange the document. This is what the Special Secretary for Modernization of the State, Eduardo Gomes, assured in an interview with the program The Voice of Brazil this Thursday (24).
According to him, the current card will be valid for 10 years and the identification institutes will have a period of one year to technically adapt to the new situation. “It is a slow, gradual process, without trauma to the population,” he said.
The secretary said that the change to a single number should provide more security and avoid the fraud that happens today.
According to Gomes, citizens will not have to pay any fees. The document will also have a digital format that can be accessed on the Gov.br platform. However, the printed document will continue to be the main one. “Today, not all Brazilians have smartphone so that they can have that digital identity. It is a citizen identity, inclusive.”, she said.
