The Fernando Ortiz Foundation opened this Friday the doors of its new headquarters, located in a colonial mansion in the historic center of Havanawith the aim of disseminating the work of the outstanding Cuban intellectual among researchers and the public, official media on the island report.
Miguel Barnet, creator and director of the center, stated at the opening ceremony that the site “will palpably exercise its role as an academic center and its calls will establish a close relationship with San Geronimo de La Habana and the Cuban Institute of Anthropology”, agree with an office from the agency Latin Press (PL).
The renowned ethnologist and writer pointed out that among the primary purposes of the Foundation is “to contribute to the dissemination of contemporary Cuban thought and studies related to national, Caribbean and Latin American culture.”
Likewise, he listed among his aspirations “to offer a space that allows the debate and exchange of Cuban and international specialists through seminars, conferences, symposiums, courses, exhibitions, among other actions,” the report states.
The opening of the place, located in the so-called Callejón de Jústiz, brought together the head of the Ministry of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, the Vice Minister of Culture, Fernando Rojas, and the president of House of the AmericasAbel Prieto, among other officials and creators.

The inauguration of the new space, on the Cuban Historian’s Day, became “an achievement in the dissemination and preservation of culture that should be so thankful to men like Ortiz, Eusebio Leal Spengler and Emilio Roig from Leuchsenring“, points out PL.
Founded on September 21, 1995, the Fernando Ortiz Foundation emerged as a public and civil, non-governmental, non-profit cultural entity aimed at promoting the work of the named third discoverer of Cuba.
From its conception, it focused on the development of scientific studies in the areas of anthropology, linguistics, musicology, religiosity, and ethnology related to Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin American identities, the news agency recalls.
