Several explosions rang out on Saturday evening (10.08.2024) in central and eastern kyiv, AFP journalists reported, and the military administration of the Ukrainian capital announced the activation of anti-aircraft defenses.
In addition, the Ukrainian air force detected two Russian missiles aimed at the capital and drone attacks on five other regions.
Air sirens blared across the capital and at least two flashes of light were seen in the dark night sky, an AFP reporter said.
Ukraine targeted by deadly attacks
In recent days, many Ukrainians have been concerned about a possible Russian air strike in response to the ongoing incursion by kyiv troops into the Kursk region.
At around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday (7:00 p.m. GMT), the kyiv air force reported that several regions were being targeted by drone attacks.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet released a death toll or damage figures.
Ukraine is regularly targeted by deadly missile and drone attacks from Russia. To protect itself, kyiv is asking its Western allies to supply it with more anti-aircraft systems.
