“It has been a historic day that we value very much because it strengthens our democracy. Citizens have decided to reject the text proposed by the constitutional convention and as a command of the Approval we recognize the result and listen with humility,” said Vlado Mirosevic, spokesman for Approval.

Karol Cariola, deputy of the communist party and also spokesperson for the “yes” supporters, thanked, for her part, the effort of those who voted for approval and assured that now what is needed is to continue in search of change.
“Not only for supporting this option but also for risking it for months on the streets of our country and worldwide. In addition, we want to call for calm, to be proud of the work done,” he said.
“We point out that the majority manifestation of the plebiscite of October 25 is still in force. As social and political forces that we articulate in the I approve we commit to generate the necessary conditions to effectively channel the popular will and build a path that will lead us to equip ourselves with a new Constitution”, he affirmed.
“This will, strong and clear, that brought us to this day is not lost with this result. The 1980 Constitution does not unite us and does not represent us. The decision of endowing ourselves with a new Constitution is still in force today and has been recognized by even the Rejection representatives throughout their campaign”, stressed.
“They promised the country that the constitution of abuse and dictatorship will remain in the past, they have given their word to all of Chile,” he concluded.
