SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The children of Trinity Those who practice “beach volleyball” do not have a sandy field, so training takes place on cement, which prevents the proper development of this sport, according to what the children’s coach told the local media. Escambray.

According to a note published this Sunday, the discipline is not practiced at the Lino Salabarría Pupo School for Sports Initiation (EIDE) due to a lack of sand.

Despite having beaches nearby, and despite the fact that Trinidad has become a must-see on beach volleyball circuits, they have nowhere to train.

Omar Enrique Mainegra Ciscal, coach, aspires to have a beach volleyball court next to the Rolando Rodríguez stadium.

“If they train on cement and compete on sand we are cheating them. We need a sand court and that is the reason why many of our players children They do not feel motivated to play beach volleyball,” he said.

With his own salary

Currently, the teacher trains eight children, some of them 11-12 years old and others in the 13-15 age category, who do not really play beach volleyball.

“They don’t practice it because they don’t know about it, they don’t have the facilities, they haven’t seen anything about beach volleyball. There are no events organized here anymore, there is no vision of what the practice of this sport is,” he said.

Sometimes they have had to walk to La Boca beach, 7km from Trinidad. However, according to the coach, this is a risk for the children as they could have accidents and it also represents an economic expense for the parents. “The ideal would be a court in the city, like in the whole world.”

The children train up to twice a month on the sand, as Omar Enrique Mainegra takes them to the beach, but he has always paid for the transfer out of his salary.

“When we have gone, I have always paid for the children’s transportation out of my own salary. Even when you talk to the parents about transportation, it is very difficult and sometimes they cannot go because they do not have the money to travel,” he said.

However, try to arrange with the Ministry of Tourism to go to the beach on a tourist bus without incurring any expenses.

They only need sand

The construction of a land In the city, it would not be a big investment, he said. “The main thing is to transport the sand, which will be taken from the opposite side of the coast, with a road in between. This has already been coordinated with Citma in the municipality and does not affect the environment at all.”

Meanwhile, Trinidadian children have to play on asphalt, where movement is faster and they adapt to that speed, which negatively affects their adaptation to beach volleyball.

Months ago, she took the female pioneer squad (11-12 years old) to Ciego de Ávila for a tournament, but they were in “adverse conditions compared to the other teams in the country,” because in other provinces, they train for three hours, lift weights and have a sand court. The women from Sancti Spiritus, on the other hand, train for an hour and a half or two hours due to the double session in schools.

Sport is dying in Cuba. On the other hand, Trinidad, a Cuban tourist centre, has numerous hotels and continues to expand its hotel capacity for tourists.
