According to court documents, Wu Xiaodong should be serving a prison sentence house arrest for 24 months imposed in 2024. However, the businessman has moved freely, even reaching the presidential office in the company of Yang Zhihua (known as “Johnny”), a close friend of Jerí.

José Jerí’s visits with Ji Wu
The official visitor log reveals that Xiaodong entered the Government Palace on three recent occasions:
- December 12, 2025: their first visit, registered as a “work meeting”.
- December 29, 2025: He remained at the Government Headquarters for three hours (from 9:32 am to 12:26 pm).
- January 5 of this year: their most recent meeting, received by the Palace press chief.
Although official sources tried to justify the meetings by pointing out that the meetings were about “Chinese food” or preparations for the “Peru-China Friendship Day” (February 1), tax sources confirmed that the meetings were directly with President Jerí.
Who is Ji Wu?
Ji Wu Xiaodong is not unknown to the Peruvian justice system. In 2022, he was accused of illegally trading wood in Madre de Dios and of bribing the then regional governor, Luis Hidalgo Okimurato obtain timber concessions.
Although preventive detention was imposed on him in 2022, the businessman took advantage of a delay in the process to escape to the United States, returning to the country only when the measure was changed to house arrest due to his age. Currently, the prosecution maintains that the house arrest has not been carried out due to the lack of reports on the property where it should be carried out, a negligence that has allowed the person under investigation to meet with the highest authority in the country.
For political analysts, this fact reflects a serious lack of filters in security and presidential protocol. “It seems that he has no advisors, he does not know who he meets with; The DNI should be used to know people’s past,” said analyst José Requena. For his part, criminal lawyer Rolando Bazán warned that, in the event of non-compliance with the restriction, the Public Ministry should request the revocation of the measure for a more severe one.
