The proposed route for the new Central Road, in charge of the PMO France (project manager), would have a lower capacity than announced. This was stated by the specialist of the Lima Departmental Council (CD) of the College of Engineers Jorge Gutiérrez Rodríguez.
The PMO’s proposal, whose outline is called the green corridor, has an extension of 185 kilometers and goes from Ate to Pachachaca (Yauli), near La Oroya. However, one of the main problems, according to Gutiérrez, would be that said highway would qualify due to its characteristics as a second-order road, with a capacity of 4,000 to 6,000 vehicles per day.

“But the MTC says that the highway (the new central highway) will move up to 12,000 (vehicles) per day and that is (a characteristic) of a first-rate highway,” he explained.
In addition, he added that about 8,000 vehicles pass through the current Central Highway.
The green corridor proposal for the new Daniel Alcides Carrión central highway is the product of the government-to-government agreement signed by Peru and France, after the latter country won the international competition to award the work through that mechanism.
However, the CD of Lima of the College of Engineers has proposed a route that would start from La Chutana, would go up along the line of summits, would come out through Pachacayo (between La Oroya and Huancayo) and would be safer against mudslides and landslides.
Data
-The investment contemplated for the new highway is S/11,959 million.
-Currently, the central highway supports the passage of just over 8 thousand vehicles.
