Santiago. – ISA University, opened an experimental banana farm equipped with advanced agricultural technology on its Santiago campus.
This initiative is part of the Deep Farm project (Development of Capabilities for Digital Agriculture in Higher Education Institutions), backed by Erasmus+ (Capacity Building in Higher Education – CBHE) of the European Union.
The act was headed by the rector of the University Isa, Edwin Reyes and was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz; The Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Olaya O. Dotel and the European Union ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Katja Afheldt.
The Chancellor of the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), Frank Rodríguez González; and the president of the Santo Domingo Cyber Park. Eddy Martínez, together with representatives of the agricultural sector and international organizations.
The experimental banana farm has been conceived as an applied research center and technological innovation, aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal for the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices and resilient to climate change.
Equipped with drones, sensors and intelligent irrigation systems, this space will allow to optimize agricultural production and strengthen formation in artificial intelligence and big data applied to agribusiness.

Within the framework of the Deep Farm project, according to a note, this model farm seeks to integrate advanced digital solutions to improve the productivity and sustainability of banana cultivation, with a “practice -based learning” approach that will benefit local students, teachers and producers.
This project seeks to integrate new technologies in agricultural education to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the sector, in countries not associated with the Erasmus+program, including Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Led by the École Supérieure des Advanced Industrial Technologies (Estia, France) and the University of Siena (Unisi, Italy), it has the participation of universities in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
In addition to ISA University in the country, this project is promoted by a solid network of institutions, including the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA) and the Santo Domingo Cyber Park (PCSD).
