The Fuerza Popular bench and related political groups such as Avanza País, Renovación Popular, Alianza para el Progreso and Acción Popular defined yesterday the vote in favor of confidence in the cabinet of Alberto Otárola, in the midst of a serious political crisis that has already given rise to 47 deceased Peruvians; 39 of them as a direct cause of military and police repression.
From his initial presentation, the head of the ministerial cabinet was confident in obtaining the support of Congress. It was for this reason that his presentation, although it began with references to the serious crisis, was marked by a series of offers in terms of more millions in investment and a concert of economic bonds.
Alberto Otárola announced a bonus called Electricity 2023. Another bonus for drought. More money for the Family Housing Bonus. And more money for the Juntos Bonus (which includes the Juntos, Pensión 65 and Contigo social programs).
At another time, he allowed himself to lead harangues by the country’s security forces, which generated applause from the right-wing benches. This, one day after the 17 deaths produced by the repression of the Government of Dina Boluarte, several of them by firearms, in the Puno region.
Praise from the right
In this new scenario, spokespersons for benches that until recently were in opposition to the Executive yesterday did not hesitate to promptly announce their support for the Otárola cabinet.
This was made known by legislators Adriana Tudela (Avanza País), Jorge Montoya (Renovación Popular) and Patricia Juárez (Fuerza Popular).
A good part of the interventions of these political shops was also marked by stigmatizing speeches and a narrative aimed at linking all the protests with alleged “terrorist” acts.
This was more noticeable in the interventions of the Fujimoristas Alejandro Aguinaga, Ernesto Bustamante, Héctor Ventura and Patricia Juárez, as well as Lady Camones (APP), Alfredo Azurín and Héctor Valer (Somos Perú), along with the now ungrouped Carlos Anderson.
José Cueto, from Renovación Popular, said he had a list with more than one hundred people identified as promoting violent actions and announced that he will deliver the information to the Executive. “It’s not only from national actors, but from foreign actors,” he said.
cabinet of blood
Criticism against the cabinet arose from the political shops of the left. Since the arrival of Alberto Otárola to the chamber, congressmen from this block placed him with posters, calling him a murderer.
“The premier says that they will give the children iron, while yesterday their parents were given lead,” said Víctor Cutipa later. “As a representative of Áncash, you embarrass me, and you do not represent me,” Elías Varas told Otárola.
Ruth Luque (Cambio Democrático) emphasized that the way out of the political crisis necessarily involves the resignation of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte.
reactions
Ruth Luque, Democratic Change
“The way out is political, and that way out is with the resignation of Mrs. Boluarte. He can’t go on another minute. And to Mr. Otárola, to wait because he will respond to justice ”.
Flavio Cruz, Free Peru
“(They say they bet) on dialogue when they don’t know how to talk; for peace, when it is for war against the people and for death. You (Minister Alberto Otárola) can resign.”
Janet Rivas, Free Peru
“To give confidence to a cabinet whose hands are stained with blood, because they are complicit in the deaths, would be to turn their back on the people or be against Peru.”
