New ALBA ship arrives in Cuba with aid for recovery after Hurricane Melissa

A new ship sent by the Government of Venezuela and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) arrived in Cuba with a aid shipment intended to support the recovery of damage caused by the Hurricane MelissaThe Cuban Foreign Ministry reported this Friday.

The ship arrived on December 17 at the Guillermón Moncada port, in Santiago de Cuba, one of the provinces most affected by the hurricane, which impacted the east of the country on October 29 as a category 3, with winds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

According to EFEthe shipment includes several containers with materials and supplies aimed at the reconstruction of road infrastructure in five provinces in eastern Cuba, one of the areas hardest hit by the meteorological event.

ALBA creates a special energy and electricity mission to support Cuba in an “extraordinary way”

According to the official note, the aid from Venezuela, along with the cooperation of countries like Bolivia and Mexicocontributes to strengthening Cuba’s response capacity to mitigate material damage and accelerate the rehabilitation of land communications.

This shipment is added to the one made on December 8 by the ship Manuel Gual, also from Venezuela and the ALBA-TCPwhich transported machinery and more than 7,110 tons of supplies to Santiago de Cuba for the victims.

The Alliance recently highlighted the start of operations of the Manuel Gual as part of its 2030 Strategic Agenda, and described it as a key tool for regional cooperation and the promotion of fair trade.

The regional bloc, founded 21 years ago by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, is made up of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and several Eastern Caribbean nations.
