The interim director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Hector Porcellareported that new Dominican capital airlines are in the process of being certified, which would generate more offers for the sector and could contribute to the reduction of air tickets.
He announced that there are now 11 airlines in the process of recertification to operate in the Dominican Republic.
“The policy is to open up the airlines, support them and encourage them to make large investments in new airlines. If new airlines are created, there will be more offers for passengers and thus, the price of air tickets will automatically drop, ”he explained.

He explained that the 11 lines are already certified and that what they are doing is modifying their certification to be able to fly in larger areas.
Regarding the interest that these airlines can fly to the United States, a destination where there is a large community of Dominicans, the official reported that when the corresponding certifications are approved, these airlines will be able to schedule their landing in that city, as long as they comply with the necessary requirements that the American nation demands.
He said that so far they have already been certified RED Air, Arajet and Sky High airlineswhich already have the conditions to travel from the country to different destinations.
The director of the Airport Department, Victor Pichardoacknowledged this week the importance of opening up local capital airlines so they can travel to the United States.
He also spoke of the need for more companies to compete.
