“We as young people are concerned about the direction of the country, and it is our duty as Panamanians to demand that public officials fulfill their role,” said Rivas.
The Comptroller General of the Republic, Gerardo Solís, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that he is already carrying out an audit of the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Unachi). The confirmation was given by Solís after receiving a group of young people who requested an audit of this Higher Study Center and an audit of the National Assembly from this supervisory entity.
The university leader, Nerys Leonel Rivas, who was part of a group of young university students from different political organizations that submitted this request to the Comptroller, pointed out that “many of us in the country feel that in the Unachi and in the Assembly a focus of corruption”.
He mentioned that the meeting lasted about 40 minutes, and they did not expect to be attended by the comptroller himself. “However, we see that disposition and we were able to express our concern in the face of all this series of citizen questions that have been given,” he said.
“We as young people are concerned about the direction of the country, and it is our duty as Panamanians to demand that public officials fulfill their role,” said Rivas.
He added that the number of complaints that Unachi and the Assembly have had on corruption issues is notorious before the country, so it is necessary to take the pertinent actions.
