Óscar “Nenecho” Rodríguez, mayor of Asunción, announced a series of measures to provide the capital with infrastructure, taking into account that, with each storm, the city is submerged in torrents that endanger the inhabitants themselves.
“We apologize to all citizens for all administrations, including ours. When the resources are not enough, the works cannot be carried out”, he stated.
Specifically, the communal chief announced three measures to mitigate the lack of infrastructure. First of all; The commune will have the redirection of financial resources that allow prioritizing urban cleanliness, roads and traffic.
Secondly, the communal chief gave the order to the Directorate of Administration to determine the debts for garbage collection rates and related concepts to all public entities. And then proceed to the notification and summons for the payment of the amounts indebted.
The third measure will be to allocate the debts paid to the provision of infrastructure.
“We are not going to collect any more garbage from public entities that do not come within 30 days to regularize their situations. It is unfair that all citizens absorb all the weight, ”he stated.
Just to name a few public entities, the Social Security Institute (IPS) owes G. 24,349 million (US$ 3.5 million) for garbage collection. The Ministry of Health owes G. 16,657 million (US$ 2.4 million). The total debt with public entities amounts to; 199,372 million (US$29 million).
The commune intimates that, in a period of 30 days, all debtor entities present payment plans. Otherwise, in a month your garbage will no longer be collected.
