A group of residents of the city of Dolores organized a vigil this Sunday night to offer “a solidarity hug“to the parents of Fernando Baez Sosaa few hours after the local Criminal Oral Court 1 announces the judgment of the trial of the eight accused of beating him to death.
The initiative was promoted by residents of the Club Ferro neighborhood, in the macrocentro of Dolor, and around 10 p.m. they approached the place Silvino Baez and Graciela Sosaparents of the victim, who thanked the organizers and reiterated their request for justice for the crime, which occurred in Villa Gesell on January 18, 2020.
“We wanted to give the parents a hug from here as neighbors. We organized this surveillance spontaneously through the WhatsApp group that we share,” Lidia Moisá, one of the promoters of the call, told Télam.
As part of the initiative, residents lit torches in cans with burning oil on the curb of the sidewalks.
“The flame symbolizes our embrace, and it is the same thing we did during the pandemic from each other’s place in the neighborhood, to express our solidarity with what was happening,” he explained.
Fernando’s mother came to the place of the vigil minutes after 9:30 p.m., and expressed her “excitement for this gesture of affection.”
“I was talking to the lady and I told her that I am very afraid, very anguished, but she tells me to stay calm, that everything will be fine. Seeing so many people who continue to support me, I feel the strength to continue, and seeing this vigil that they put together for Fernando reaches the depths of my heart,” he thanked.
The victim’s father joined minutes later, and expressed that “the support of the people gives the necessary strength to move forward.”
“Whatever tomorrow is (for Monday) the sentence, let’s move on, keep fighting. God wants me to be an example so that this doesn’t happen again. I would like the youth to become aware and take courage so that there is no other Fernando”the father assured.
