Neighbors of the Cathedral of Matagalpa complain: they can no longer stand “the bustling fairs” of the dictatorship

It has become common that on any day of the week, especially Saturday and Sunday, the Ortega dictatorship, through the Mayor’s Office and government institutions, take over the surroundings of the Cathedral with the bustling fairs of basic grains, vegetables , agricultural, gastronomy, political rallies and all kinds of offers for all types of buyers, tourists and curious.

The dictatorship, without any type of restriction, orders the installation of high-voltage electrical systems, awnings of all sizes around the perimeter of the Cathedral that includes the atrium, the main street, Paseo Juan Pablo II, Morazán Park, Police street, the cultural center and the back of the temple.

“Actually, they take over the entire avenue and even close the streets two blocks before reaching the Cathedral. This is a horrible disorder, the noise (is) unbearable and the thieves riot from morning to dawn,” said Mrs. Leonor Polanco, a resident of the sector and affected by chronic diseases that have worsened with this situation.

«These people do not respect anything, neither those of us who live here, nor the traffic nor anyone, they make their scandals and nobody stops them. There are sick people here and they are going to kill us. For everything they close the street two, three days, a whole week and there is no law that is valid », he denounces.

“A torture»

“Every time a fair is installed in front of the Cathedral or next to it, they put on a loud sound system that is heard louder at night and there is more noise than music,” denounced, for his part, the young Aurelio Lanzas, another resident of the area.

Installation in the streets surrounding the cathedral of Matagalpa, creating “a hostile climate” especially at the time of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

He assured that it is “torture to have all that scandal during the day and night and the vendors who stay in the sections make their riots too. That is unbearable and the Police are worth it and they are even happy about so much disorder », he complains.

The residents consulted affirm that for five years, there has not been a quiet weekend. «If it is not a fair, it is sports games, motorcycle races, boxing platforms, horse parades, musical bands, marches with mortars and rockets, in short, it is endless. We are not at peace,” said a man who identified himself only as Inocencio.

They assure that in its propaganda for each activity, the regime calls for disorder by proclaiming that there will be “an atmosphere of joy and with great participation of the population, cultural presentations, revolutionary catwalk and popular festival.”

“In reality, it is a source of thieves, prostitution, disorder, noise and the risk of killing people with the stress of almost every day,” the Mataglapinos complained.
