Neighbors of the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito held a “semaforazo” against the project announced by the City Government of a linear park in the middle of the lanes of Honorio Pueyrredon avenue and in demand of the creation of a green space on a railway site in the area.
The protest was in front of the monument to the Cid Campeador, where the neighborhood group displayed a poster on Gaona avenue with the legend “Do not destroy Honorio Pueyrredon”, which resulted in a cut to vehicular pace on that trace.
Strictly speaking, the protesters rejected the plan of the Buenos Aires administration so that half of the lanes of Honorio Pueyrredon avenue, in eight blocks that go between the 24 de Septiembre and Giordano Bruno squares, be transformed into a linear park, with the intention to add one hectare of green space.
“They say that we are going to win a hectare of green, but they are going to be flower pots”, considered Télam in the place of the protest Mariano, a member of the neighborhood collective, and added that “our proposal is that a real green space be created in the railway beach of the Sarmiento line, which has 15 hectares.”
He also warned that “by removing half of the lanes of the avenue, the traffic in the area that is already collapsed will be saturated and, in addition, it will affect the neighbors when they leave the apartments with their cars and the merchants who will not have space to load and unload merchandise “.
María, one of the protesters, said that “no one from the City Government consulted us about the work that starts in January, but we found out through the media. “
“It was not until the first days of December that they held a meeting at the headquarters of the Commune to inform us about the project, but when we asked about more technical questions, their response was that they were going to send us the details, but that never happened.”
Another protest
Meanwhile, on Thursday, residents of the Núñez neighborhood convened, at 18, a “semaforazo against the new Building and Urbanization Code” which, as they interpret, allow the advance of the construction of towers.
The protest will take place at the intersection of Cabildo and Crisologo Larralde avenues, and is part of the actions carried out by the neighborhood group “Vecinos Unidos de Núñez” to make visible the resistance to tall buildings and that included other street protests and the placing posters on the fronts of their houses.
