SANTIAGO.- Renowned Santiago lawyer Ramón Antonio Veras (Negro Veras) received several death threats for several consecutive days at the end of July via telephone and Facebook for his alleged pro-Haitian stance.
This was made public by Negro Veras himself in an article entitled “Faced with a death threat”, who also reported that he proceeded to file a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office in this city.
He says that these threats came from a man identified as Rafael Ricardo Sánchez Martínez, whom he says he does not know.
Similarly, Negro Veras says that Sánchez Martínez was arrested yesterday in La Romana and is in the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of this city.

“Disgusting pro-Haitian, we are going to shoot you,” said the message posted on Veras’ Facebook account on July 29 of this year.
On July 31, Veras received a call on his cell phone and the screen showed that the owner was Rafael Ricardo Sánchez Martínez, who asked him about his political activism, his opinion on Balaguer and Peña Gómez, as well as his belief in the fusion with the Haitians, and finally warned him that he was going to kill him.
That same July 31, at 11:45 p.m., Negro Veras received a message on his Facebook computer with the following message: “No, but don’t worry, if we don’t shoot you, we will slit your throats and your family’s throats for being pro-Haitian. Those slaves from France are not our problem.”
At 3:30 a.m. on August 1 of this year, Veras received the following message via Facebook, “We are going to teach you and your family a lesson,” which was allegedly sent by the same man identified as Rafael Ricardo Sánchez Martínez.
Faced with this situation, Negro Veras went to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to file the complaint with his legal representative.
This morning, the public prosecutor, Osvaldo Bonilla, confirmed the arrest of Mr. Sánchez Martínez, who will be given a coercive measure in the next few hours for the threats he made against Veras.
