The Dominican Republic has registered 941 cases so far this year dengue cases and 9 deaths from this cause, confirmed the Ministry of Health on Thursday. Public health which, however, noted a reduction compared to the same period last year.
The weekly epidemiological bulletin indicates that six cases of the disease have been confirmed in the last seven days, one less than the previous week.
However, the number of suspected cases so far this year has exceeded 8,000, according to official data.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health highlighted the campaign ‘Let’s Beat Dengue’, which was launched this week to combat the proliferation of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits this disease and others such as chikungunya and zika.
The Dominican Republic is facing the season of greatest circulation of the virus, due to the heat and rain, as the Ministry of Health recalled this week.
Last year, the country faced an epidemic outbreak of the disease, with some 28,000 confirmed cases and more than 60 deaths.
