Dr. Jorge Jesús Rodríguez, from the Ministry of Health’s health promotion department, said that 9,830 cases of dengue have been registered in the country and that a new, more aggressive and contagious strain is circulating in the world.
Dr. Rodriguez said that this strain of dengue is much more contagious, the symptoms appear faster as does the incubation period. It causes damage to internal organs such as the heart, liver, lungs and kidneys.
He said that a new, stronger strain of dengue has been detected in other countries where cases are increasing as are hospitalizations and deaths.
