Navy says that tidal waves on the country’s coasts will last until Monday

The Chilean Navy’s Maritime Meteorological Center reported a few days ago about a storm surge event, which is occurring between Arica and the Gulf of Penas, including the Juan Fernández archipelago. The institution indicated that the phenomenon will last until Monday, March 13.

According to the Navy, the swells developed on Saturday between the Gulf of Penas and Isla Mocha. On Sunday, meanwhile, they took place between Isla Moche and Arica.

“This is expected to continue until Monday along the entire coast. We recommend getting away from the rocks and being careful on the beaches,” said the head of the Valparaíso Maritime Meteorological Center, Commander Gonzalo Concha.

This is the eighth abnormal storm surge announcement so far this year.
