The Chilean Navy confirmed yesterday the disappearance of a first corporal of the institution in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, who had been using a special permit, without remuneration, since January 2022.
Although the institution confirmed the disappearance of the official through a statement, his family denounced the fact as a kidnapping after receiving graphic material of extortion.
“In hours this afternoon, the Chilean Navy learned of the unfortunate disappearance of a First Corporal of the Institution that is located in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, using a special permit, without payment, since January 2022. “, begins the statement of the Navy.
They also added: “The Chilean Navy, through official channels, has activated the protocols to come to the aid and support of the family of the missing sailor and we want to express our concern about the situation that affects a member of the Chilean Navy and his family”.
Kidnapping Report
The wife of the missing official contacted the family in Chile, to whom they sent graphic material (videos, photos, audios) about extortion.
Faced with this, the corporal’s family first turned to the Investigative Police (PDI), to report a possible kidnapping. The perpetrators requested US$100,000 as a ransom, in addition to setting a deadline for receiving payment.
