Within the framework of her message to La Nación for Patrias Fiestas, the President Dina Boluarte announced a key advance in the massification of the natural gas In Peru, which will benefit thousands of families in regions that – for years – have been excluded from this basic service.
The ambitious plan contemplates the expansion of natural gas To 15 new cities, located in 7 additional regions of the country, as part of an energy inclusion policy that seeks to close social and economic gaps. The areas that will receive this resource are Ayacucho, Apurímac, Cusco, Huancavelica, Puno, Junín and Ucayali.
To make this project a reality, the Ministry of Energy and Mines signed a strategic agreement with the Cálidda concession company, which implies a private investment exceeding 550 million dollars. The execution plan includes the construction of 4 distributing substations, 12 regasifying plants and more than 3,700 kilometers of key distribution networks, key infrastructure to guarantee efficient and safe access to natural gas.
“More than 300 thousand homes will have a clean and economic energy source, directly benefiting 1.5 million Peruvians,” said the head of state before Congress. In addition, he reiterated that the government seeks to exceed 1.7 million homes with natural gas for July 2026.
The initiative was applauded by Felipe Cantuarias, president of the Peruvian Society of Hydrocarbons (SPH), who stressed that this announcement represents a fundamental step for sustainable development and the reduction of energy inequalities. “We greet the executive’s commitment to the massification of natural gas in the southern macroregion,” he said.
In his speech, Boluarte also highlighted the achievements with the social programs Bonogas and Fise Vale, which have allowed more than 550 thousand homes to access natural gas and that 3.5 million Peruvians buy the GLP gas ball at half price. These advances have meant an accumulated investment of more than S/ 1.8 billion in favor of the most vulnerable families.
