The national production of vehicles reached a total of 536,893 units during 2022, between cars and utility vehicles, which marked an improvement of 23.5% compared to 2021, while exports totaled 322,286 vehicles, with an increase of 24.3%. , reported this Wednesday the Association of Automotive Factories (Adefa).
With 15 business days of activity due to the stoppage of plants for vacations, three days less than in December 2021, the automotive terminals produced 37,119 units during the last month of 2022, with an increase in daily production of 16% compared to the same period. from the previous year.
Also, in absolute terms, it was 30.5% below the volume of November and 6.9% less compared to the 39,849 units that were produced in the same month last year.
In the accumulated 2022, the sector produced 536,893 units (cars and utility vehicles), which marked an improvement of 23.5% compared to the 434,753 vehicles that were manufactured in the same period of 2021.

For its part, the number of vehicles exported during December amounted to 22,605 units, with a drop of 27.9% compared to November and an increase of 15.2% in the interannual comparison.
In the twelve months of the year, 322,286 vehicles were exported, with an increase of 24.3% compared to the same period in 2021, when 259,287 units were sold abroad.
Regarding the destinations of local production, throughout the 12 months of 2022 some 202,406 units (62.8% of total shipments) were destined for the Brazilian market, which confirms the importance of the neighboring country, although last year it was well below the historical 85% it came to represent.
Next in importance are Central American markets, with 32,462 vehicles (10.1%); Colombia, with 20,180 (6.3%); Chile, with 20,140 (6.2%); Peru, with 17,617 (5.5%); and Mexico, with 7,889 (2.4%).
As regards last December, 33,517 units were sold in the local dealer network, 4.8% less compared to November and 2.4% more than in the same month of 2021.
In the accumulated from January to December 2022, the automotive industry registered 376,257 units in wholesale sales, 12.5% more than in the same period of 2021.
When analyzing the December closing and 2022 balance, Martín Galdeano, president of Adefasaid that “even in the face of the challenging international context in terms of semiconductor supply and logistics, added to the local situation, production and export volumes registered significant year-on-year growth.”
Regarding the prospects for 2023, Galdeano said that the numbers for 2022 generate an expectation based on the plans advanced by the terminals to increase production due to greater external demand.

“This industrial and commercial expectation is accompanied by the investment plans that were announced in the last 24 months and exceed US$ 1,400 million,” stressed the head of Adefa.
Regarding the performance of the industry in December, the executive -who is also president of Ford Argentina- considered that “although the absolute volumes of activity in December are lower than in previous periods due to the seasonality of closures for holidays, the volume of production daily continues to reflect the consolidation of significant year-on-year growth”.
Likewise, and as a plan for this year, Galdeano emphasized the need to “continue working together with the value chain and the national authorities in an agenda focused mainly on the implementation of the investment promotion law, the development of the local auto parts, improving competitiveness to produce and export”.
He also raised the importance of continuing joint work for “the opening of new markets and in a regulatory framework on sustainable mobility so that Argentina is positioned among the first countries in the region to have a regulatory framework in this regard.”
As for the sales of the local market, the Association of Automotive Dealers (Acara) reported last week that the registration of 0 km vehicles in December registered an increase of 10.9% compared to the same month of 2021.
For their part, the registrations registered throughout 2022 totaled 407,532 units, 6.8% more than in 2021 when 381,436 operations with 0Km vehicles were completed.
With the end of 2022, it was confirmed that the Fiat Cronos -which is manufactured in the province of Córdoba- was the best-selling model of the year, with 38,769 patented units and a 10.2% share of the total market.
At the same time, Toyota was the brand most chosen by Argentines with 85,357 units sold throughout 2022 and a 22.4% market share, product of the performance of a portfolio headed by the Hilux pick-up.
