Although experts predicted declines for the sector sightseeingdue to the recent position of USA; which recommended his compatriots to reconsider their trips to Peru, Peruvian tourism has shown a remarkable recovery during the Easter holiday. According to National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur)around 1.5 million people were mobilized on those dates, with an achievement of 1.8 million soles in profits, a fact that favored the economic revival from the country.
Peruvian tourism returns to pre-pandemic levels
The ATTACH visibility study: Viajes por Fiestas Patrias 2022 shows that general searches for the category are reaching pre-pandemic levels. It is expected that in this month, the figures will be similar to those of July 2019.
On the other hand, in the last month, the term “flights” reached the first position of the top 5 words most searched by Peruvians with more than 90K searches, followed by “airport” with 79K.

Regarding trips to the interior of the country, Rappi Travel stated that 55% of Peruvians showed interest in national destinations. This trend is also reflected in the ATTACH study, which maintains that in June 2022 more than 3 million related searches were obtained, compared to last year.
international destinations
The city of Los Angeles is the most preferred international destination by the population, whose searches with the highest volume are marked between the months of April and November. Likewise, Paris and Milan are the second most sought after cities in the country.
Places in the interior of the country most sought after by Peruvians
According to what was stated by the digital strategy consultancy, ATTACH, for another consecutive year, the capital of Peru is crowned as the most sought after by Peruvians, followed by Arequipa and Cusco. However, the city of Ayacucho also shows an interesting growth; especially during the month of April, the month of Easter celebrations.
On the other hand, the destinations close to Lima, considered for short trips, are Paracas and Antioquia. Searches for the aforementioned tourist destinations have doubled compared to 2021.
Regarding the beaches, Máncora and Barranca are positioned as the favorites in the country. It should be noted that places like Puntal Sal, Vichayito, Huacho and Chancay are also outstanding options in Peru.
For camping lovers, Canta once again becomes the destination with the highest volume of searches. Under that line, the areas of Huancaya, Marcahuasi and Cieneguilla are also highlighted, which show a positive trend as of April 2021.
Top destinations: Coast, Sierra and Jungle
- Coast: During the last month, Trujillo, Chiclayo and Ica are the provinces with the most searches.
- Saw: Arequipa, Cusco and Huaraz are the most preferred provinces.
- Jungle: Oxapampa, Tarapoto and Puerto Maldonado are in the top 3. Likewise, it is highlighted that Oxapampa has tripled its searches in the last 3 months.
Favorite brands
As for the favorite brands in the country, Latam continues to position itself as the most sought after airline. Similarly, in the Low Cost category, Sky and Viva Air have the preference of the Peruvian consumer. In addition, the entry of JetSmart in the Peruvian market is highlighted, whose search volume reached the maximum number in April 2022.
For its part, Cruz del Sur is consolidated as the most sought-after land transport company in Peru, while Oltursa and Civa are in second and third place, respectively.
Despegar, for its part, continues to be the travel agency with the greatest preference and interest on the part of the Peruvian traveler. Despite this, Viajes Falabella has continued to advance with growth since the beginning of this year.
Finally, both Despegar and Airbnb have been the most sought-after platforms in the category of travel agencies and facilitators.
