National strike January 4: Carriers guarantee that operations will be carried out normally

Faced with the indefinite strike called for this Wednesday, January 4 in the regions of Puno, Cusco, Moquegua, Apurímac, Madre de Dios and Ayacucho, the director of the National Council of Land Transportation, Martin Ojeda, He assured that interprovincial transport will carry out its operations normally.

“(We are) worried about what we went through two weeks ago, but hopeful and with a bit of peace of mind considering the effort made by the Police and the Army to get these blockades lifted. We have coordinated with Puno, Cusco and Arequipa, they are willing to continue working and not affect -not only their employees and drivers- but also the population”, he specified in dialogue with TV Peru News.

He also pointed out that for the moment interprovincial travel will continue to develop as always as long as there is no provision coming from the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) or law enforcement to paralyze their operations.

Through a statement, the company Cruz del Sur reported that it will continue to provide its transportation services, prioritizing the safety of its passengers.

For this reason, the sale of tickets and the provision of its services will be subject to verifying conditions of free transit and safety in the national road network.

In the event of the suspension of any of its scheduled services for reasons of force majeure, the tickets purchased to travel on the affected services will be automatically postponed and rescheduled with an open date.

For its part, the company Ferrocarril Transandino SA, concessionaire of the railway in the South and South East of the country, indicated that before the indefinite restart of protests in Cusco, Puno and Arequipa they will suspend railway operations this January 4 until further notice.

  • The section: Cusco – Urubamba- Ollantaytambo- Machupicchu- Hydroelectric and the Urubamba-Pachar branch, of the southeast railway.
