“As of today, hemorrhagic stroke are included in the National Resource Fund (FNR) for universal coverage, of the entire population, for free,” announced the Minister of Public Health, Karina Rando. The resolution encompasses the treatment of aneurysms or acute arteriovenous aneurysms, which generate high mortality and disability in people who suffer from it.
In the activity, developed on Monday 27 at the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), the Deputy Secretary of the portfolio, José Luis Satdjian; the general director of the FNR, María Ana Porcelli, and the advisor on brain health issues of the aforementioned Secretariat of State, Gastón Hayek.
“For many years, work is being done so that the entire population accessed the coverage of strokes (stroke),” Rando said, and recalled that, at the beginning of the current administration, the treatment of ischemic was universalized. “As of today, hemorrhagic strokes are included in the FNR for universal coverage, of the entire population, for free”he reported.
In that sense, the Executive Power signed a decree to add to the FNR benefits, as of Monday 27, the total coverage for such treatments to whom endovascular surgery has been indicated. In a January 21 document its incorporation is based on “The loading of disability and mortality that represent cerebrovascular diseases in Uruguay, linked to the treatment of aneurysms or acute arterysteous aneurysms or malformations.”
Before the implementation of this measure, the people who had to undergo the intervention had to pay the costs of tens of thousands of dollars, according to the place, and the necessary supplies, Rando explained.
In addition, he considered very good news for the entire population that the amparo trials will no longer be the procedure by which this request is made, but directly before the FNR. In Uruguay about seven people suffer from some type of ACV per day and, of those valued as hemorrhagics, only a small part are surgical and endovascular, he added.
