National Police will not participate in march for peace

They call for a march for peace at the national level for this Tuesday

The Peruvian National Police (PNP) issued a statement today announcing that, in order to avoid misunderstandings, it will not participate in the to take place this Tuesday, January 3 at the national level, a demonstration that was called by the institution days ago.

“Given the current political and social situation in the country, as well as various opinions disseminated in this regard and in order to avoid misunderstandings; It has been ordered that members of the National Police refrain from promoting the active and organized participation of the community,” the statement said.

They also remarked that the PNP does not have any political opinion or manifestation, but is a promoter of values, attitudes and behaviors that reject violence.

In this sense, they refuted the questions about their call to participate in the mobilization, arguing that it was part of their institutional functions by contributing to peaceful coexistence and social peace at the national level.

The PNP removed from its social networks this morning the publications in which it invited the population to join this initiative. The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Rojas, also said today that the Police would not participate in the mobilization.

The March for Peace was called for this Tuesday, January 3 in the main squares nationwide. In the case of Metropolitan Lima, the mobilization has been called to begin in Campo de Marte starting at 3:00 pm, heading towards Plaza San Martín.
