The National Police commemorates 134 years of strengthening security, coexistence and citizen trust.
The National Police celebrates 134 years since its founding, a journey that has marked the pulse of the country in security, peace and service to the community. Since November 5, 1891, when President Carlos Holguín Mallarino promulgated Decree 1000, the institution has evolved without losing its essence: being the guardian of order and coexistence in Colombia.
Those watchmen who illuminated the streets with lanterns and whistles are the origin of a police force that today has more than 186 thousand men and women willing to protect a population of more than 52 million citizens. Technological changes, training in human rights, criminal investigation and intelligence have been key to facing new social challenges.
In the streets, in each patrol and operation, you can see work full of discipline and love for the country. Colombians remember an institution that has combated various threats, from terrorism to common crime, always defending life and citizen tranquility.

Commemoration station comes at a time of renewal under the leadership of Brigadier General William Oswaldo Rincón Zambrano, who promotes a closer and more humanized Police. Beyond uniforms, each police officer is a human being with dreams and a family, in charge of restoring hope with each house to which citizens return healthy.
The institution is based on the S2D model – Security, Democracy and Dignity – which covers the protection of citizens in urban and rural territories, support for democracy during electoral processes and the promotion of police well-being to maintain public trust.
On this anniversary, the National Police celebrates under the leadership of Brigadier General William Oswaldo Rincón Zambrano, in a stage where the word peace takes on a new dimension in police work.
Current surveys reflect a favorable image of 62.7%, reflecting confidence and citizen support. “Thank you for believing in Colombia and its National Police. Our mission is not simple, but with love, humility and commitment, we will build the peace that our country deserves.”

S2D Model: Security, Democracy and Dignity What is it about?
The General Director’s management model is developed under three strategic dimensions:
1. Security and Human Coexistence
Inspired by international standards, it strengthens life, freedom and peace in urban and rural territories, with a priority focus on youth and environmental protection.
2. Democracy Plan
It guarantees order, transparency and respect for human rights in electoral processes, reaffirming the country’s democratic commitment.
3. Dignity
Promotes police well-being, institutional identity and closeness to citizens. The well-being of the uniformed officer is the basis of an exemplary and reliable Police Force.
It is not only a birthday, but a constant legacy, built with tears and courage, that continues to be written day by day on the very skin of Colombia. Because the Police advance with the country, and the country advances with its Police.
