The National Police today welcomed 112 new aspiring cadets, who will make up the Fifty-first (LI) promotion, marking a transcendental step in the consolidation of the reform and comprehensive transformation of the institution.
These young people, committed to the mission of strengthening the country’s security, were received at the Major General (r) José Félix Rafael Hermida González Cadet School, of the Police Institute of Higher Education (IPES), located in the Hatillo camp, in Saint Christopher.
The welcome ceremony took place on the school esplanade, with a warm reception that highlights the institutional commitment to the comprehensive training of the new members of the National Police.
The activity was chaired by the central director of Human Resources, General Esteban Figuereo García; the rector of IPES, Colonel Cecilio Delgado Agramonte, and the director of the police academic school, Colonel Francisco Fabián Fabián.
The group of candidates is made up of 92 men and 20 women, who have passed rigorous evaluation phases, which included recruitment tests, selection and a general meeting.
This exhaustive selection guarantees that only the most qualified and committed to the police mission are part of this new promotion.
A step towards police dignity and professionalization
During his intervention, General Figuereo García highlighted the dignity that the National Police has experienced under the government of President Luis Abinader, underlining the fundamental role that the new cadets will play in strengthening public security.
«We urge all of you to be faithful in the fulfillment of your duties as students, respecting your instructors and colleagues, but above all Law 590-16, as well as the internal regulations of this house of police studies. Only in this way will they be able to proudly display the uniform of our glorious National Police. This step that they have taken as good citizens is transcendental, because they have had the vocation to serve the country, to provide public security, which goes beyond a responsibility,” said General Figuereo García.
For his part, Colonel Cecilio Delgado Agramonte spoke about the challenges and responsibilities that the cadets face, emphasizing the effort and dedication necessary to achieve success and the high standards of the institution. He also thanked the parents of the applicants for their support.
Meanwhile, Colonel Francisco Fabián Fabián highlighted the importance of institutional reform in terms of security, and urged the new cadets to behave with discipline, honesty and loyalty towards their superiors.
Also present at the event were the person in charge of the Department of Human Management, Colonel Alonzo Vicente Montero, the administrative deputy director of the School for Cadets, Lieutenant Colonel Mayobanex Contreras Bueno, senior officers of the educational entity, and the parents of the applicants, who were witness the important step their children are taking toward a career serving national security.
Next steps in your training
Starting on January 10, the new cadets will be transferred to the Battle of Las Carreras camp, where they will attend the first common semester together with applicants from other entities of the Armed Forces.
In their training process, the cadets will receive rigorous theoretical and practical training, which ranges from the fundamentals of Police Sciences to specialized training in areas such as Arrest Mechanics and Techniques, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, Care for Women, Violence of Gender and Family Affairs, Human Rights, Police Tactics and Strategies, Management of Office Programs, Personal Defense and Self-Protection, Criminal Investigation, Crime Prevention and Citizen Security, among others.
In addition to police training, cadets will have physical training that includes body conditioning, survival tactics, and weapons and vehicle handling.
Once the academic curriculum of the degree in Police Sciences is completed, cadets will be able to opt for the rank of second lieutenant, ensuring their comprehensive preparation to serve citizens efficiently and professionally.
It should be noted that in December 2024, the National Police graduated 47 cadets from the forty-seventh (XLVII) “Juan Isidro Pérez De La Paz” class, who were immediately incorporated into various areas of the institution to strengthen citizen security and reinforce the operational capacity of the National Police in its daily work.
