National Police awards Atheyna Bylon for her achievements at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

In an emotional ceremony held at the headquarters of the National Police in Ancón, the Director General, Jaime Fernández, together with the Vice Minister of Public Security, Luis Felipe Icaza, proudly decorated First Sergeant Atheyna Bylon, who recently made history by winning an Olympic medal for the country.

This outstanding boxing athlete not only raised the name of the nation on the international sports stage, but has also made her teammates proud. The moment was propitious to impose the new rank on her in front of everyone’s eyes.

“It is an honor to have among our ranks a woman as brave and dedicated as First Sergeant Atheyna Bylon. Her triumph at the Olympic Games is a reflection of the spirit of sacrifice and love for the country that all police officers carry in their hearts,” said Director General Jaime Fernández, during the award ceremony, where she was acclaimed and also awarded by the directors of the security forces, Senan and Senafront; she also received a bouquet of flowers from the children of the Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Center (CAIPI) in Balboa, on this occasion accompanied by some beautiful words, thank you Athyena, Olympic champion, thank you for that medal.

The police chief added, “It is a way of showing affection to both of them, Atheyna and Captain Gustavo Caicedo, her coach, who also received a medal and a parchment. Together they achieved this feat not only for the country, but for the National Police, where they have left the blue honor high; Atheyna, you are an example, and we will continue to promote sports in the institution, to accompany future sports jewels,” concluded Jaime Fernández, General Director.

For her part, First Sergeant Atheyna Bylon, with her scroll, several medals around her neck and the National Police uniform, is undoubtedly an Olympic heroine and national pride. She said, “I am happy for this decoration from my institution. It never crossed my mind to become the first woman to leave Panama on the Olympic podium. I dedicate this medal to an entire country, to all the athletes,” said Bylon, who is seen as an example of discipline and personal improvement by members of the board, officers, classes, agents and non-sworn members.

The entire country celebrates this historic achievement, recognizing the double effort involved in representing the nation in such a demanding competition while fulfilling the duty to Protect and Serve.
