The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) issued a statement informing that coordination surgeries are performed normally in the National Integrated Health System. This resolution follows the Ministry’s intervention in the neostigmine supply chain.
In March 2022, purchases of neostigmine ampoules by healthcare institutions increased, as a result of the drop in diagnosed cases of Covid-19 and the reactivation of coordination surgeries in the health sector, causing a mismatch between demand, stocks and defined planning.
This situation partially compromised coordination surgeries in these institutions, while oncology and emergency surgeries continued to be performed. In the statement it is reported that the issue was barely known since the MSP made a survey, diagnosis, and monitoring of the situation. Based on this, an action plan was built with the aim of maintaining the volume of major surgeries with a strong emphasis on emergency and oncological surgeries.

In the first place, remnants of stock were identified in healthcare institutions that could be shared with other institutions.
Then, the date and volume of replacement was coordinated with the laboratory and immediately the distribution of neostigmine ampoules was carried out, addressed to committed healthcare institutions.
On Friday, April 29, the delivery of the drug was resumed. In this instance, prioritizing the committed institutions and those that were at risk of having difficulties with their surgical schedules.
Despite the continuous increase in demand, scheduled surgeries are being carried out in a timely manner according to the schedules set by the providers, as announced.
