National Holidays: Minsa recommends proper nutrition and hydration

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) with the aim of safeguarding the health of the Panamanian population reiterated the main self-care measures on food during the National Holidays.

In this sense, Celestina Delgado, National Head of Nutrition of the Minsa, recommended that people comply with all health regulations to take care of their health; such as frequent hand washing and consuming properly preserved food to avoid foodborne infection due to incorrect handling.

He stressed the importance of staying hydrated; that is, drink enough water, clean and know where it comes from.

He explained the importance of consuming fruits, basically those that come in natural packaging such as bananas, tangerines, etc., which are properly preserved. In the case of papaya, watermelon and pineapple then it must be kept at an adequate temperature.

He stated that when buying food on public roads, consumers should make sure that the person who sells wears hairnets, has clean clothing and has food handling and good health cards (green and white).

At the same time, Delgado recommended that parents during the parade bring food that is not going to be damaged over the hours and that they do not run the risk that the children will not be poisoned.

He mentioned that the result of poor food intake can cause diarrhea, vomiting that can even occur immediately.

Beware of climate variation

Regarding the climatic conditions that are registered in the country, the head of Nutrition of the Minsa emphasized that you must always carry an umbrella due to the variation in weather; “If there is a lot of sun, wear a protective cap, seek shade, use sunscreen even if the day is cloudy to avoid burns from sun exposure at all costs.”
