During his visit to the capital of Santander, Former President Álvaro Uribe reiterated that he will maintain his position that the National Government of current President Gustavo Petro should not panic businessmen, and much less to the general public with the issue of tax reform.
For the former head of state, To the extent possible, he has held meetings with the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, because he believes it is important to keep the country informed, without secret or clandestine meetings, to which Uribe said “we have always expressed the need to keep the country informed, without secrets, without secrecy, that is why we have talked about issues such as peace, as an initiative to put an end to the armed conflict.”

Regarding the tax reform, former President Álvaro Uribe reiterated that it is necessary to look with a cool head at what the less serious alternatives may be, and in order not to hit the pockets of citizens, “In these cases, the businessman who has two pesos prefers to invest them in the improvement of the company and not take them to the United States, because it depends on Colombia having trust, security and stable conditions for private companies.”
The former congressman pointed out: “The issue of sugary drinks, at least the companies should be given a transition time, because the factories are adjusting to be able to produce the drink, that is why technological time should be given for the companies to adjust; but it is clear that the tax reform will be approved, the least serious thing is that an adjustment period would come out of there if the industrial sector can replace sugary drinks with healthy drinks”.

Finally, referring to the fact that it is clear that the tax reform will be approved because the Government has the great majority in Congress, Former President Uribe invited the members of his party, the Democratic Center, to defend their position before Congress with reasons for what they oppose and what would be the less serious alternatives when the issue of tax reform is discussed.
