National Government has disbursed at least $9.5 million in subsidies to social programs

Some $9.5 million in subsidies to social programs and projects in the country have been delivered by the National Government, through the National Office of Administration of State Subsidies, of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) during these three years of management of the current administration.

According to an investigation by the newspaper La Estrella de Panamá, with these economic resources, public management subsidizes 75 institutions that develop 103 social programs and projects, serving more than 25,000 people from vulnerable populations.

The data specifies that through subsidies to soup kitchens, patronages, Non-Profit Organizations and associations, recognized by law, children, young people, people with disabilities and older adults in social vulnerability are served.

The contributions made every month benefit the operational development of shelters, homes, orphanages and comprehensive care projects. The province of Panama, with 46 projects, leads the list of subsidized centers, followed by Panamá Oeste with 15 and Chiriquí with 12, Veraguas 10, Colón 6, Coclé and Los Santos with 4 each, Comarca Ngäbe Buglé 3, Darién 2 and Bocas del Toro and Herrera with 1 program each province.
